What is safeguarding?
Every day adults in County Durham suffer abuse or ill treatment in many different ways such as physical, verbal, sexual or financial. Keeping adults safe from abuse, harm or neglect is known as 'Safeguarding Adults'.
We know that people are aware of abuse but do not always report it or do anything about it.
The worst thing you can do is nothing.
As public authorities have a duty to keep adults safe from abuse. We want to ensure that people live lives that are free from violence, harassment, humiliation and degradation and that people who are looked after by professionals or care staff must be treated with dignity. Full details are in our policies and procedures area.
